Handcrafted spellwork with herbs and beeswax

The honey jar is one of the best-known pieces of Southern folk magic. Its idea is simple: as honey is sweet, may things between us be sweet.

You will need

  • A small jar with a lid, filled with honey
  • A slip of paper and pencil
  • A pinch of dried rose petals or cinnamon
  • A small candle

Making the jar

  1. Write the name of the person, and over it, your own name.
  2. Below, write what you want: “Kindness between us. Honest talk.”
  3. Fold the paper toward you and push it into the honey with the rose or cinnamon.
  4. Taste a drop of honey from your finger and say, “As this is sweet to me, may we be sweet to each other.”
  5. Close the jar and burn the candle on its lid.

An honest note

This is for softening, not forcing. It works alongside a real conversation, not instead of one.
