"Trust your gut" is common advice, but our inner signals are not always easy to interpret. Fear, hope, and genuine intuition can feel surprisingly similar in the moment.

Fear tends to be loud

Fear usually arrives with urgency and a story about what will go wrong. It often repeats itself and makes the body tense.

Wishful thinking tends to be bright

Wishful thinking feels exciting and pulls toward a particular outcome. It often avoids looking at inconvenient details.

Intuition tends to be quiet

Intuition is often calm and persistent. It may not come with reasons, but it stays steady even after the emotional weather changes.

  • Wait a day before acting on a strong feeling.
  • Notice whether the feeling is the same when you are rested.
  • Write it down and read it back in the third person.
Intuition is not the opposite of reason. It is reason that has not yet found its words.

Listening well takes practice. Be patient with yourself as you learn your own signals.
