Salt at the Threshold: Haggath's Doorway Protection

A five-minute ritual for guarding your home

By Seraphina||1 min read
Salt, rosemary and a candle on a windowsill

In Haggath's village, the doorway is where a home is most open. Every new moon she renews a thin line of salt across her threshold. You can do the same.

What you need

  • A handful of coarse salt
  • A pinch of dried rue (or rosemary)
  • A small bowl

How to do it

  1. Sweep the doorway clean, brushing outward.
  2. Mix the salt and herb in the bowl with your fingers, saying what you want kept out.
  3. Pour a thin, unbroken line along the inside of the threshold, left to right.
  4. Leave it until the next new moon, then sweep it out the door and begin again.

The work is in the attention, not the salt. Speak plainly and mean it.

If you'd rather start with Haggath's own blend, you'll find it in Haggath's shop.
