A Rosemary Floor Wash for a Heavy House

Clearing a home after illness, quarrels or a hard season

By Seraphina||1 min read
Candles, dried herbs and a brass bowl

Before she burns anything, Haggath reaches for a bucket. Water carries away what smoke only moves around.

The wash

  • A bucket of warm water
  • A large handful of fresh or dried rosemary
  • Three pinches of salt
  • A splash of vinegar

Steep the rosemary in a pot of boiling water for ten minutes, strain it into the bucket, then add the salt and vinegar.

How to wash

  1. Open a window.
  2. Start at the back of the house and work toward the front door.
  3. As you wash, name what you are clearing.
  4. Pour the leftover water outside, away from the house.

Finish by lighting a candle in the cleanest room. Haggath's cleansing herbs are in her shop.
