The front door is the one place your day physically passes through. A threshold practice is simply deciding, out loud, that what comes in through that door is chosen rather than accidental.

What you need

  • One bowl of salt, or a pinch of it on a dish by the door
  • A candle you can light safely for a minute
  • Something you only wear outside — a specific jacket, scarf, or pair of shoes

The daily version

  1. Coming home, pause with your hand on the door for one breath before you open it.
  2. Say your own name and one sentence about what you are leaving out there.
  3. Hang the outside garment on its hook before you go further in. Not on the bed, not on the floor.

That garment is the switch. Taking it off is the body being told the day has ended, and it works even when the words feel foolish.

The weekly version

Once a week, light the candle by the door for a minute and wipe the doorframe and the handle with a damp cloth. Refresh the salt. Do not overthink the salt — it is a marker, and markers are what make a habit stick.

The monthly version

Stand inside your doorway and look at your own home as though you were seeing it for the first time. Note one thing you have stopped seeing. The threshold is where you practise noticing your own life.

When the door is not enough

If you have come home to a house that feels hostile, or the household mood has turned mean and stays that way, a daily habit may not reach it. That is the point to ask for a working built for your situation. Kiki performs home protection and cleansing spellwork by hand in Manhattan. Look at the protection workings at Kiki Aura Studio.
